Bringing Books Back to Life

For 25+ years, American Book Company has helped books reach new audiences by partnering with publishers to redistribute surplus inventory into retailers, classrooms, and communities across North America, increasing access to affordable books.

A Better Model for Publishers

Early on, we recognized a challenge in the publishing industry. The traditional, title-by-title bidding process for excess inventory was time-consuming and unpredictable.

We pioneered the exclusive publisher contract model, replacing uncertainty with a streamlined and reliable solution. By building long-term partnerships and creating consistent outlets for surplus inventory, we brought stability to operations while opening new pathways for books to be rediscovered and read.

We do more than move excess books. We create opportunity for publishers, for partners, and for readers.

Evolving with the Industry

Our foundation was built in retail, where we developed practical book programs that simplified how surplus inventory reached the market.

As the needs of our partners expanded, so did we. Today, we support both retailers and educators, applying the same disciplined, solutions-focused approach to classrooms and learning environments.

Across every channel, our mission remains consistent: keep books in circulation and place them into the hands of new readers.

Part of the Largest Bargain Book Distribution Network

American Book Company operates from a 900,000 square foot distribution center in Jefferson City, Tennessee. In 2021, we joined forces with Book Depot Inc. to expand our reach and strengthen our position in the market.

Together, we form the largest bargain book distributor in the world, serving thousands of businesses and organizations across North America. As part of this broader network, we offer publishers and partners unmatched access to inventory, operational scale, and long-term stability.

Our size allows us to move efficiently. Our partnerships allow us to operate responsibly. Both ensure that more books continue their journey instead of sitting idle.

Our Purpose

We believe books should never sit untouched when they still have value to offer. By extending the lifecycle of books and placing them into new hands, we support literacy, access, and long-term opportunity. When books are easy to access, they do more than fill shelves. They open doors.
