National Library Week
Every year since 1958, the National Library Association (ALA) has sponsored National Library Week where we acknowledge and celebrate everything libraries and librarians do for us. From providing free rentable books to offering educational resources, libraries have remained an essential part of communities for many years. This year, National Library Week takes place from April 1st to 10th and the theme is “Welcome to Your Library”. The goal is to focus on the ways that people can still get involved with their local library, even if that means doing so virtually during the pandemic.
Virtually Visit Your Local Library
With COVID-19 forcing most of us to stay home and work virtually, librarians have dedicated a lot of time to creating online resources that can be accessed on the library’s website. You can find everything from e-media, educational programs, kids’ content, and much more.
Join A Book Club
Joining a book club is a great way to stay connected with other book-lovers while supporting your library at the same time. Reach out to your local library to see if they have any current book clubs or search around on social media for local groups. Instead of buying the books, check them out at your library.
Download an E-Book
Most libraries offer ebooks that you can download right to your phone, tablet, or e-reader device. Take advantage of the hundreds of book titles that are available right at your fingertips. Downloading an ebook can be done from the comfort of your own home, making this an easy way to support your library during the pandemic.
Send Your Librarians Some Love on Social Media
Share some appreciation for your local library and librarians online. Follow them on social media and use the hashtag #NationalLibraryWeek to post reasons why you’re thankful for the library and its staff.
At American Book Company, we love celebrating our local libraries and all things books. If you’re looking to add a selection of books to your store, we have an inventory of over 12,000 remainder titles to choose from! Simply head to our website to get started or to browse the many books we have to offer.
