National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day

Many of our customers are small mom-and-pop shops, so we know firsthand the value they provide to their communities and their customers. These small businesses play a huge role in our country’s economy, making up about 44% of the United State’s gross domestic product. They’re also responsible for creating about 67% of new jobs, and almost half of the country’s workforce is employed at a small mom-and-pop shop.

Over the last few years, especially with the COVID pandemic, mom-and-pop stores have faced some incredibly tough economic times. Today, we honor the sacrifices these entrepreneurs make as we find ways to celebrate their hard work.

There are many ways to show your support. Here are a few of our favorites.

Shop local

With the Amazons of the world taking over, a way to support local businesses is to shop small and shop local! While prices are sometimes a touch higher than at a big box store, the customer service, and personal touches that local business owners add make all the difference. They know their customers. They know what they want. And they know who they are. This is worth well more than an extra dollar or two.

Give a shoutout on social media

Many small mom-and-pop stores rely on word-of-mouth referrals to gain new customers. Again, their personal touches make their business one you want to share. So, on #NationalMomAndPopBusinessOwnerDay, give your favorite store a shoutout on social media! Whether it’s a neighborhood boutique, a family-owned restaurant, or your favorite local book shop, spreading the word about their great products and services can only help them in the future. If you appreciate what they do and provide for you, give your friends and family a chance to experience that themselves.

Write a thank you card

Many small businesses are traditional and love personal touches. You can make their day by writing and delivering a card explaining what they mean to you and how their shop has impacted your life. Small things like this are why these owners love what they do, and you can positively impact their day and store by expressing your gratitude.

As the largest distributor of the remainder and wholesale books, many of our customers own lovely mom-and-pop shops. Our books are up to 80% off the publisher’s retail price, and this low price lets mom-and-pop shops compete with large corporations. We’re glad every day that we can play a role in what they do.
We recommend adding a book section to entice and inspire your customers if you own a small business. Find out more about how that can bring value to your business here, and then reach out to us with any questions you may have or for help placing an order. We work with some of the best owners in the business, and we can’t wait to see these relationships continue to grow in the years to come.
